BALER, Aurora — The province of Aurora is hunkering down as typhoon “Uwan” (international name: Fung-Wong) barrels toward Northern and Central Luzon, bringing with it the threat of torrential rains, flooding and landslides.
Governor Isidro Galban on Saturday ordered the suspension of work in all government offices and classes at all levels — public and private — on Monday, as part of precautionary measures to keep residents safe.
“The safety of our constituents is our utmost priority,” Galban said. “We urge everyone to take these suspensions seriously, monitor weather updates, and evacuate if necessary.”
Aurora has been under Blue Alert since Saturday, with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) placing rescue teams, medical units and heavy equipment on standby. The Emergency Operations Center has been running 24/7 to coordinate response efforts across the province.
Towns along the coast — including Dingalan, Dilasag and Baler — are bracing for possible storm surges. The Philippine Coast Guard-Aurora has already banned small boats from setting sail and advised fishermen to stay ashore until conditions improve.
Rescue teams from the 307th CDC, 3rd RDG, RESCOM, the Philippine Army and local DRRM offices have pre-positioned rubber boats, rescue vehicles and generator sets in strategic areas. The DPWH and Provincial Engineering Office have also deployed heavy equipment to keep key roads clear in case of landslides or flooding.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Health Office is on Code White Alert, with P1.47 million worth of medicines and medical supplies ready for deployment. Relief goods and evacuation centers are also in place should the need arise.
