BAGUIO CITY — The City Council here is moving forward with an ordinance that would establish and fund a research grant program aimed at soliciting expertise from citizens to solve urban problems and drive the city’s vision of becoming a “Smart City.”
The proposed local legislation, titled the “Baguio City Research Grant Program,” was approved on its second reading. It initially seeks P2 million from the city’s General Fund, with subsequent funding to be included in the annual budget.
Approved research proposals would receive grants ranging from P50,000 to P200,000, depending on the project’s scope, duration and impact.
The program is designed to fund original, academic, and community-based research that provides evidence-based solutions, promotes inclusive development and helps preserve the city’s cultural and environmental heritage.
