Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. on Monday disclosed that he has ordered the proper preparation for the incoming threat posed by a tropical typhoon that hits the country this November.
In a statement, BuCor said, “In light of the impending threat posed by Tropical Storm Tino, which has the potential to escalate into a super typhoon, Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and preparedness of various correctional facilities.”
Catapang ordered C/Supt. Gary Garcia of the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, C/Supt. Ricardo Sespeñe Jr. of the Leyte Regional Prison, and Acting C/CINSP Edgardo Mendoza Jr. of the Davao Prison and Penal Farm to be more vigilant, prioritizing both safety and effective communication to navigate through this potentially hazardous situation.
He emphasized the importance of readiness and a comprehensive contingency plan tailored to the specific needs of each facility, considering the challenges that may arise during severe weather events.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Tino could make an initial landfall in Leyte then cross the Visayas and Palawan before exiting the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday.
