The Batangas Forum for Good Governance and Development Association Inc. has thrown its full support behind the proposed joint venture between Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and Batangas II Electric Cooperative (BATELEC II) — a move seen to finally address the persistent power issues hounding many parts of the province.
Made up of business and civic leaders, professionals and residents, the Batangas Forum has long been calling attention to frequent power interruptions that disrupt daily life and hamper business growth.
In a resolution dated 29 October, the group formally endorsed the partnership, saying Meralco’s financial strength and proven operational record could bring much-needed improvements to BATELEC II’s service areas.
“Meralco has shown what reliable service looks like in Batangas City, Sto. Tomas and San Pascual,” the Forum noted. “With this partnership, we can expect better systems, stronger investments, and greater efficiency for more communities.”
The group said collaborations like this — between private distribution utilities and electric cooperatives — are key to modernizing power infrastructure, strengthening distribution systems, and meeting the fast-growing electricity demand in the province.
BATELEC II currently serves the cities of Lipa and Tanauan, as well as 15 municipalities, including Alitagtag, Balete, Cuenca, Laurel, Lobo, Malvar, Mataas na Kahoy, Mabini, Padre Garcia, Rosario, San Jose, San Juan, Talisay, Taysan and Tingloy.
The Batangas Forum also urged BATELEC II to ensure that employee welfare, fair employment, and opportunities for professional growth are prioritized throughout the transition.
Finally, the group called on the local government, business sector, and consumers to rally behind the initiative — emphasizing transparency, coordination, and regular communication as key to making the joint venture a success.
