The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Isabela Provincial Field Unit raided a warehouse allegedly involved in the sale and possession of trademark-infringing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders on 27 October.
The operation, conducted in coordination with representatives from the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers Association (LPGMA) and other territorial police units, took place in Purok 5, Barangay Tagaran, Cauayan City, Isabela.
Authorities were implementing a search warrant for violation of Section 155 (Trademark Infringement) of Republic Act 8293, also known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. The raid resulted in the arrest of two suspects.
According to the report, the arrested individuals were identified as Ped, 50, and Dan, 32, both residents of Cauayan City. They were apprehended for allegedly trading and possessing LPG cylinders bearing counterfeit trademarks. The suspects were reportedly not authorized by the legitimate trademark owners, making their operations illegal.
During the raid, authorities seized 21 filled cylinders bearing SPI and Generic trademarks and 86 empty cylinders branded Regasco, Econo, Icook, Generic, Shine Gas, Ad and SPI, with a total estimated value of P200,000.
The CIDG Director emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting and securing the exclusive rights of inventors, artists, and other creators to their intellectual property under the law.
