Mamamayang Liberal Representative Leila de Lima on Sunday shared a message on social media in commemoration of Undas, urging the public to pray for the lives lost to violence.
The lawmaker said that as the nation observes All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, Filipinos are reminded of their departed loved ones and the moments they wish they could have shared with them.
“In the gathering of family, during moments of silence and reflection, we realize how fast time passes, how precious life is, and how we must make the most of the remaining time we have with our loved ones,” De Lima said in Filipino.
She also cited that the same longing is felt by the bereaved families of individuals who died from acts of violence and have yet to receive justice.
“We should also include in our prayers our countrymen who were denied life by violence, the disappeared whose families do not know their fate, and those who were left behind, denied their presence, and have not yet been given justice,” she said.
In a subtle yet pointed remark, De Lima urged the public to also pray for those who, while still alive, have lost their moral compass and sense of justice.
“Let us also pray for those who are still alive, but whose principles for what is right, just, and accountable have died,” she said.
De Lima ended her message with a reminder that accountability will eventually come.
“They will be held accountable to the people,” she emphasized.
