Peter Parker's greatest battle in Spider-Man: Brand New Day may not be against a supervillain, but watching his closest friends build new lives without remembering him.

The final trailer for the upcoming Marvel film offers a glimpse of Peter (Tom Holland) struggling with the aftermath of his decision to erase himself from everyone's memory to save the world. Four years later, MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) have graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and returned to New York, while Peter continues protecting the city alone as Spider-Man.

According to producer Amy Pascal, Peter has never truly let go of his best friends.

“Peter has been telling himself that he’s let MJ and Ned go, but he never has, and he’s checking on them all the time.”

Zendaya said the sequel explores a new phase for MJ and Ned as they navigate adulthood after college.

“This is a new chapter in MJ’s and Ned’s lives. When they move back to New York, they must figure out how to become adults. That idea resonated with me because I remember when I was trying to figure out who I wanted to be in the world. It’s a pivotal time for MJ and Ned, as it is for most people.”

Batalon explained that Peter is forced to watch his friends move forward without any memory of the bond they once shared.
