Financial stability while doing what makes your heart happy — that is the concept behind L. Evaristo Shoe Shop, Likhang Ina Art and Crafts, and Rovies Iba-ay Kalinga Native Products, as their owners strive to excel in their craft while earning from it.
Their products are no strangers to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) programs for MSMEs, including the upcoming Tatak Pinoy Summit this December. For Larry Evaristo of L. Evaristo Shoe Shop in Marikina, Emelyn Moralejo of Likhang Ina Art and Crafts, and Elvie Umnas of Rovies Iba-ay Kalinga Native Products, joining such events is essential to promote their products.
Umnas happily told DAILY TRIBUNE that she always makes sure to participate in government initiatives, saying, “Lahat, ma’am, basta DTI (All of them, as long as they’re organized by DTI).”
All three entrepreneurs shared that they do not just manage their businesses, they also pour their creativity into designing their own products.
For Evaristo, who grew up in the shoe industry with a father who was also a shoemaker, the dream to open his own shop, partnered with his love for drawing and painting has long been in his heart. “Gusto kong maging part of the preservation of the shoe industry,” he shared.
As Marikina-made products can compete with branded ones in terms of quality, handmade shoes, he emphasized, have a distinct character that machine-made ones can’t replicate. “So we’re really pouring our heart and soul into it,” he said.
Despite her natural talent for arts and crafts, Moralejo started her business only after the pandemic, inspired by motherhood. She recalled spending quality time with her children creating art pieces and gift items during the lockdowns. Eventually, she found a way to turn that creative bonding activity into a profitable business.
Their products will be showcased at DAILY TRIBUNE’s Tindahan ni Tarsee event from 5 to 7 December at Festival Mall.
