Alex Eala advances to the Round of 16 of the Hong Kong Tennis Open after beating Katie Boulter of Great Britain, 6-4, 2-1, on Tuesday (Manila time).
The matsted for only one hour and nine minutes as Boulter withdrew in the middle of the match due to an injury.
It is the first time the 20-year-old Eala made it past the first round of any Women's Tennis Association tounrament after early exits in the Wuhan Open, Japan Open and the Guanzhou Open.
The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate takes on third seed and world No. 21 Victoria Mboko of Canada on Thursday with the time yet to be determined.
