Alex Eala collides with world No. 63 Katie Boutter of Great Britain as she starts her journey in the Hong Kong Tennis Open on Monday at Victoria Park.
Game time starts at 10 a.m. as Eala, No. 53 in the World Tennis Association rankings continues her pursuit of another WTA title.
The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate is coming off a fruitless campaign in the Guangzhou Open in China last week where she fell short in both the women’s singles and doubles
Eala suffered a 6-2, 4-6, 4-6 loss to Claire Liu of the United States in the Round of 32 of singles play.
She then joined forces with two-time Olympian Nadiia Kichenok of Ukraine and made it as far as the semifinal of doubles.
Unfortunately, Eala and Kichenok were defeated by Janice Tjen of Indonesia and Katarzyna Piter of Poland, 7-6, 3-6, 5-10.
Now, Eala will have a chance to start over as she guns for her second WTA title.
But her road to the title will be littered with strong opponents, led by world No. 13 Belinda Bencic of Switzerland, Filipino-Canadian and world No. 22 Leylah Fernandez, Eastbourne Open champion and world No. 32 Maya Joint of Australia.
But first, Eala has to get past Boulter, who boasts of three WTA titles to her name.
A win over the 29-year-old British netter will set Eala up against the winner between Talia Gibson of Australia and Canadian Victoria Mboko.
