A 25-year-old man posing as a government employee of Quezon City was intercepted by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 after attempting to depart to Hong Kong using fraudulent documents.
According to BI, the man pretended to be a government worker on a personal leave and presented a travel authority with the seal of the Quezon City Hall.
Authorities of BI have also observed inconsistencies in his documents and statements which led to a secondary inspection.
Upon further questioning, it was found that the man was not a Quezon City Hall employee but an aspiring overseas worker who responded to a Facebook advertisement offering employment.
He confessed that his recruiter was supposed to provide him with his fake documents for P4,000 and arranged to meet at a fast–food restaurant around the vicinity before departure.
BI said the man was asked to pose as a government employee to be able to pass through strict immigration documents. He was confirmed to be a victim of human trafficking and was barred from departing the country.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado reminded the public to not resort to falsifying documents or in accepting offers that claim easy overseas employment. He emphasized that immigration officers are trained to detect forged documents and suspicious travel patterns.
