Ex-DENR worker caught with shabu, firearms

SAN JUAN, Ilocos Sur — A 72-year-old former employee of the DENR was arrested Saturday morning by police who searched his house, resulting in the confiscation of shabu, two loose firearms, and bullets.
Major Benjamin Raquedan, chief of police, reported that they successfully implemented a search warrant for violation of RA 9165 against a 72-year-old retired DENR employee, drug surrenderee, and listed Street-Level Individual from Brgy. Barbar, San Juan, Ilocos Sur, which resulted in his arrest.
"The San Juan Municipal Police Station once again has proven its commitment to providing peace and security to the community," said Raquedan.
He said the operation resulted in the seizure of seven (7) small heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing alleged shabu, with more or less 0.43 grams and a Standard Drug Price (SDP) of Php 2,580.00; four (4) medium heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing alleged shabu, with more or less 0.268 grams and an SDP of Php 1,608.00; two firearms (one (1) 12-gauge homemade shotgun and one (1) unit of Cal. .45 ARMSCOR); and various ammunition.
The search was witnessed by the suspect, elected barangay officials, and a DOJ representative.
"The arrested person was appraised of his constitutional rights in a dialect he fully understands and subsequently brought to Ilocos Sur District Hospital, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur, for medico-legal examination. Inventory and markings of the seized items were conducted on-site in the presence of the respondent, witnessed by the barangay officials of Brgy. Barbar, San Juan, Ilocos Sur, and DOJ representative," Raquedan added.
Raquedan said that "the successful arrest of the suspect is the result of the relentless campaign of the PNP and other law enforcement agencies against illegal drugs, with the active support of the community.
