According to the Sorsogon Provincial Information Office, the province is now the titleholder of the nut brittle/ praline in the world. Governor Boboy Hamor received the award from a representative of the Guinness World Record at the Sorsogon Provincial Gymnasium.
The said achievement was thru the efforts of the Provincial Government, Department of Tourism, the Provincial Tourism Office, the local government units (LGUs), organizers and participants who helped in making the biggest Pili Kunserba.
“This is our second world record: our first was in 2019 under then Governor (and now Senator) Chiz Escudero for the longest street folk dance. We are indeed doubly proud and extremely grateful!” Hamor said.
The largest nut brittle spanned 144.16 square meters, with 260 cooks from various municipalities participating in the preparation while using 1,430 kilograms of pili nuts.
Sorsogon is among the leading producers of pili in the Philippines, with pili trees predominantly located in the southern region of Luzon, especially in Bicol.
