The city government has started the disinfection drive in public schools and day care centers in Angeles City, following the seasonal trend in Influenza-like Illness (ILI) cases on 16 October 2025.
According to Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, the disinfection and inspection of structural integrity of buildings officially began at Gueco Balibago Elementary School, led by the City Health Office’s City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU), City Sanitation Team and City Engineering Office.
He added that sanitation teams conducted comprehensive cleaning and disinfection, while engineers inspected the buildings to check their structural safety.
Other public schools and day care centers are scheduled for disinfection and inspection in the coming days.
The activity is being carried out in close coordination with Department of Education (DepEd) Angeles City, with class suspensions arranged by cluster to allow for efficient sanitation and inspection without disrupting the academic calendar.
Meanwhile, the Schools Division Office of Angeles City has has neither confirmed nor denied social media reports that there are approximately 9,000 students allegedly experiencing flu-like symptoms within the Division.
“We would like to clarify that the figures currently being reported are still subject to validation by the Division’s School Health and Nutrition Unit (SHNU). The preliminary data was collected by school personnel through advisory-level surveys and has not yet undergone the necessary verification and cross-checking processes,” the SDO Angeles City stated.
To ensure a thorough review of the reported cases and determine the actual number of students affected, the Division has coordinated with the City Health Office in the conduct of the assessment.
“We understand the concern this news may have caused among parents, educators, and the general public. The health and well-being of our learners are our top priorities, and we are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and urgency,” the SDO Angeles City added.
