The excitement for the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is officially building up as the final four entries were unveiled during the grand announcement event held at the University of Makati Performing Arts Theater on Friday. Hosted by Enchong Dee, Jervi “KaladKaren” Wrightson, and Ivy Nuqui, the launch was also livestreamed via the MMFF’s official Facebook page—marking another milestone in the lead-up to this year’s most anticipated holiday movie season.
Completing the 2025 MMFF lineup are four diverse titles that promise to tug at the heartstrings, spark laughter, and ignite meaningful conversations.
“I’mPerfect” — Starring Krystel Go and Earl Amaba, both actors with Down syndrome, alongside an ensemble of veteran stars including Joey Marquez, Lorna Tolentino, Tonton Gutierrez, and Sylvia Sanchez, who also produced the film under Nathan Studios. Directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, the film is poised to celebrate inclusivity, love, and the beauty of imperfection.
“Love You So Bad” — A collaboration between ABS-CBN Films and GMA Pictures, this youthful romance features Pinoy Big Brother alumni Bianca de Vera, Dustin Yu, and Will Ashley, under the direction of Mae Cruz-Alviar. The project marks a rare partnership between rival networks, signaling a continued spirit of industry unity.
“UnMarry” — The much-awaited return of Angelica Panganiban to the big screen pairs her with Zanjoe Marudo in a legal drama that examines love, loss, and the painful process of annulment. Helmed by award-winning director Jeffrey Jeturian, the film dives deep into questions of commitment, closure, and self-worth.
“Bar Boys: After School” — Director Kip Oebanda’s sequel to the 2017 cult favorite reunites Carlo Aquino, Kean Cipriano, and Enzo Pineda in a story about friendship, brotherhood, and the pursuit of dreams. The cast also features Klarisse de Guzman and Will Ashley, bridging generations of actors in a film about navigating life after the bar exams.
These four entries join the previously announced films from July, creating a well-rounded roster that spans comedy, horror, drama, and social commentary:
• “Call Me Mother” — Starring Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre, directed by Jun Robles Lana
• “Rekonek” — With Gerald Anderson, Gloria Diaz, Alexa Miro, Carmina Villarroel, and Zoren Legaspi, directed by Jade Castro
• “Manila’s Finest” — Headlined by Piolo Pascual, directed by Rae Red
• “Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins” — Featuring a powerhouse cast led by Ivana Alawi, Francine Diaz, Kaila Estrada, and Loisa Andalio, under the direction of Shugo Praico, Joey de Guzman, and Ian Lorenos
Together, these eight films promise a dynamic mix of narratives—from social realism to fantasy horror—reflecting the ever-evolving pulse of Filipino cinema.
The MMFF’s 51st edition is set to kick off its iconic Parade of Stars on 19 December, bringing together fans, floats, and filmmakers in a grand celebration across Metro Manila streets. The prestigious Gabi ng Parangal (Awards Night) follows on 27 December, honoring the festival’s finest performances and productions.
Finally, the MMFF 2025 officially opens in theaters nationwide on December 25, continuing a beloved Filipino Christmas tradition that champions homegrown talent and storytelling on the biggest stage.
