In celebration of World Post Day on 9 October, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) highlighted the critical role of letter carriers, or Postmen, in linking communities across the Philippines and around the world.

This year’s World Post Day theme, “Post for People: Local service. Global reach,” pays tribute to the individuals behind the service, emphasizing that collective efforts can achieve a global impact.

As the final link in the delivery process, Postmen are responsible for the last-mile delivery of letters and parcels, ensuring that customers—particularly in rural and underserved areas—receive their orders promptly. PHLPost called them “the backbone that keeps the postal services moving.”

“Postal services remain relevant and vital to the government’s efforts to serve Filipinos here and abroad,” PHLPost said in a statement, adding that the organization continues to innovate and integrate modern technology while upholding its commitment to affordable and reliable mail services.

Beyond connecting individuals, postal services help businesses reach consumers who may otherwise have limited access, reinforcing the Post’s role in social and economic development.

World Post Day, officially proclaimed in 1969, commemorates the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. The Philippines is an active member of the UPU, which brings together 192 countries worldwide to ensure the smooth flow of mail and parcels globally.

Through World Post Day, PHLPost aims to remind Filipinos of the Post’s vital contribution to everyday life, from connecting families to supporting businesses, and its enduring impact on both local and global communities.
