TACLOBAN CITY — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced Thursday that it has nearly completed restoring the Visayas grid following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck near Cebu.
The company said only one key transmission line linking Cebu and Leyte remains out of service, with power transmission across the region otherwise stabilized.
“NGCP is working round the clock to ensure the stability and normal grid operations in Visayas following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake. Our teams on the ground continue their restoration and repair works to bolster the reliability of the transmission network,” the company said in a statement.
The transmission service company confirmed that power transmission services across the Visayas were normalized as early as Wednesday, 1 October even as repairs continued on damaged lines.
Restoration work is still ongoing for the Daanbantayan-Tabango 230kV Line 1. However, its parallel circuit, the Daanbantayan-Tabango 230kV Line 2 submarine cable, was successfully energized on 3 October.
Additionally, the Compostela-Daanbantayan 230kV Line 1 was energized on 7 October and is now operating parallel with the earlier restored Line 2. The NGCP cited these restored lines provide n-1 contingency to the backbone transmission corridor and do not affect any power customers.
