Gospel songs join P-pop bandwagon

Amid the reign (ceaseless onslaught?) of P-pop and K-pop in the country, faith-strengthening songs and inspirational ones persist.

After all, as the saying goes, “Man doesn’t live by bread alone.”

Among these songs are the ones composed by broadcaster-TV host Daniel Razon, who has gained the appelation “Kuya” before his full name. (He is now better known as Kuya Daniel Razon.)

Razon recently released “Kapatid Ko, Magtumibay” and “Hesus, Tunay Na Yaman.” And seemingly to assert that the spiritual has to co-exist with the temporal, the singles were issued through KDR Music House, the entertainment production and promotion company affiliated with Wish FM radio 107.5.

Razon is inclined toward faith-strengthening music since he heads the religious congregation identified with the then-popular evangelical TV show “Dating Daan,” hosted by his uncle, the late Eli Soriano, a brother of Razon’s mother. The congregation is known as Members Church of God International who’s presiding minister is Razon.

Although Razon has recorded albums in the past, he decided not to record himself his latest compositions and instead let another male singer do it. But the singer is intentionally not named.

“It is neither the company nor the singer that we desire to popularize but the respective message of each song. We deem the messages as more important,” asserted KDR Music House.

Both songs reflect Kuya Daniel Razon’s long-standing commitment to creating music that uplifts, strengthens and brings glory to God. Through his songwriting, listeners are invited not only to feel but also to reflect, pray and renew their hope, stressed KDR Music House.

The singles are now playing in major streaming platforms.

Razon has really not given up secular pop music. His KDR Music House is all set to hold its latest edition of its unique concert-cum-film presentation known as “Wish Date.”

The entertainment extravaganza is now on its 11th year and its anniversary presentation Wish Date: Love Tales will pull off on 17 August (Sunday) at the Araneta Coliseum at 7 p.m.

The film within the concert stars Vivoree Esclito, Joao Constancia, Shaun Salvador, Lienel Navidad, Monina Lawrence and acclaimed thespian Susan Africa. Their performances will tell a moving story of love, loss, healing and unexpected second chances.

For the concert, the audience will be thrilled by Kitchie Nadal, Christian Bautista, Gigi De Lana, Dingdong Avanzado, and Aquilla Packing.

The film is narrated in voice over by a Wish Radio disc jockey known as Dr. Clark who, in real life, is Razon himself. The songwriter and public service TV show host (where he was first called Kuya Daniel) actually began his broadcasting career as a disc jockey.
