A 52-year-old Filipino man wanted for estafa was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay on Thursday night before boarding for Thailand.
According to the Philippine National Police - Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) on Friday, authorities confirmed the passenger’s travel schedule at around 8:00 p.m., then proceeded to the international pre-departure area to apprehend the suspect.
His arrest was based on a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court in Baguio City on 13 January 2020 for estafa, with a recommended bail of P500,000.
In a separate operation, PNP-AVSEGROUP and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) also arrested an arriving passenger at NAIA Terminal 3 last Wednesday for violating RA 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
The passenger who had arrived from Singapore was intercepted by BI personnel by virtue of a warrant issued by a Regional Trial Court in Bago City, Negros Occidental on June 2014.
The case involves a violation of Section 5(e), paragraph 2 of the law, which penalizes withholding or deliberately providing insufficient financial support legally owed to a woman or her children.
NAIA Terminal 3 airport police said that both suspects declined interviews with the duty investigator citing representation by private counsel.
