The local government of Cainta, Rizal has asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to fund a drainage project to mitigate flooding in the town.
"I am actually requesting the DPWH to fund nung malaking interceptor drainage project natin along Imelda Avenue that would create another outfall para ma-ease up 'yung volume ng tubig na kailangan dumaan sa loob ng villages para lang makalabas sa Cainta River," Cainta mayor Keith Nieto told members of the PaMaMariSan-Rizal Press Corps in a group interview on Friday.
"We're also putting up a pump station in Buli Creek," the mayor added.
Nieto also announced that Rizal is organizing a flood summit aimed at addressing the perennial flooding problem in the province.
"In fact, in Rizal, on Tuesday, meron flood summit involving some of the legislators, some local officials of the different towns to identify exactly ano ba ang dapat nating gawin at kung saan tayo patungo," he said.
"So far as Cainta is concerned, we can speak laboriously on that aspect dahil pinag-aralan ko itong maigi. I will give my piece siguro when I asked by someone to speak about it and see what the resolution is ours. Alam naman namin. It's just that we need some support coming from the higher ups–from the national government to implement this," the mayor added.
