Public utility vehicles (PUVs) resumed operations inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) compound on Monday to transport students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) and Muntinlupa.
The City Government of Muntinlupa said the Bureau of Corrections approved the arrangement under several conditions including timed operations, designated pick-up and drop off points, and driver dress codes, mandatory drug testing, and vehicle identification.
The move drew praise on social media, specifically from students and parents who said it eased the burden of commuting.
Some citizens also called on the city government to include senior citizens and persons with disabilities in the provided service.
BuCor gave its “in principle” approval for PUVs for the route last Thursday which is expected to benefit over 15,000 students, along with 5,000 MNHS students.
Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon is also set to meet with the South Greenheights Association for a similar agreement following the closure of another access road used by students of PLMun and MNHS as a shortcut last July.
