Rich lighting engineer Mark Gibbon has been formally charged with attempted murder on 4 August for allegedly drowning his “daughter-in-law” in Florida, Daily Mail UK reported on Sunday.

Gibbon, 62, was on vacation with family on 3 August at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, near Disney World, when he was arrested after causing a disturbance. He allegedly pushed the head of his son’s ex-partner, Jasmine Wyld, 33, under the water “multiple times,” resulting in scratches and bruises.

According to police, Wyld’s nine-year-old daughter, and Gibbon’s granddaughter jumped into the water in an attempt to save her mother.

Gibbon, who has worked with Mick Jagger and Ed Sheeran, has already hired a high-profile lawyer for his case. Daily Mail UK reported that he may not be granted bail even if he applies, as U.S. authorities consider him a “flight risk.” He has been charged with two counts of battery and one count of second-degree attempted murder.

The outlet said he already faced court last week for the battery charges, while the attempted murder case is scheduled to be heard today.

“He could technically be eligible for bail, but because of his wealth and the fact he is a British citizen, a judge may consider him too high a flight risk. If bail were to be considered, then he would have to surrender his passport and agree to wear a monitoring device,” a Daily Mail source said.

Family affair

Wyld and Gibbon’s son, Alex Gibbon, 34, are former partners who never married but share two children.

Gibbon and his former daughter-in-law were reportedly in a relationship, and Alex allegedly once found his “wife” and father in the same bed. Despite this, Gibbon and Wyld have denied any romantic involvement.

A family source also claimed that father and son are not on speaking terms. Last year, Alex was jailed for trying to run over his dad’s £80,000 Porsche.

“Mark and Jasmine have been seeing each other for a few years, but they’ve never admitted it. Alex and his dad don’t speak at all. There have been a number of issues within the family. He feels an awful betrayal at how his dad has struck up a relationship with the mother of his two children,” the source said.

Reports also stated that the alleged lovers admitted to drinking heavily, and that Gibbon allegedly told Wyld she was not the main beneficiary of his will.

If convicted on all charges, Gibbon faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
