You could almost hear Katy Perry’s “Roar” blast off from the speakers as soon as stepping into Tsavo Lion Restaurant, the first African-themed restaurant in Asia that offers a unique dining experience — breakfast with the lions.
There are thick glass walls in between the diners and the lions, so there is no need to worry that you might end up being the lions’ breakfast instead of just eating with them!
Tsavo got its name from two Kenyan national parks of the same name. The restaurant’s interiors, too, give a very realistic African safari camp vibe with its wooden details, animal and tribal prints, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows that give the impression of the restaurant being a part of a bigger jungle outside.
While you can see the lions anytime during the restaurant’s opening hours, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., it is advisable to enter the restaurant at 7 a.m. sharp to secure the best seat in the house — right in front the “Lion King” himself when he is unleashed from his den at 9 a.m. to hunt in the wild. The lion sits for a while in front of the table first before it hunts, enabling ample time for photo opportunities.
Between 7 to 9 a.m., while waiting for the lions to be unraveled from their den, you can feast on local and international cuisine from the restaurant buffet. At the other side of the restaurant, there is a viewing deck where you could dine with other animals on view.
Missed the king? Fret not — lionesses can be viewed from the bar. You can sip cocktails with their roars in the background — how crazy is that?
There were two lions actually if the other goes out for a hunt. The other one can be viewed both in the women’s and men’s comfort rooms. This is your best bet if you woke up late and unable to snag the best seat in the house!
Stay put because once in a while, animals from the restaurant’s parent theme park, Taman Safari Bali, pop in for encounters and more picture-taking.
Taman Safari Bali is home to hundreds of animals from over 100 species, including endangered and rare ones.
