MAGSINGAL, Ilocos Sur — A farmer was killed while his wife was seriously wounded in a broad daylight ambush Saturday morning on the barangay road of Barangay Patong, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur.

Lt. Richard Pajo, chief of police, identified the victim as Maynard Unciano Torreno, 33, a resident of Barangay Patong, Magsingal. Wounded was Mary Rose Tabag Torreno, 32, a teacher and the victim’s wife.

Their daughter, 9, a Grade 4 pupil, was miraculously unhurt in the ambush.

Prior to the incident, police said the victims were traversing the barangay road heading west on board their black Honda TMX tricycle bearing plate number 709AWG when unidentified perpetrators wearing face bonnets came from the right side at around 8:40 a.m. and shot them multiple times.

After the incident, police said the suspects fled toward an unknown direction.

Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds on different parts of their bodies and were brought to Ilocos Sur District Hospital, Magsingal.

However, Maynard Torreno was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, Dr. Marley Oracion, while his wife was still alive and undergoing medical treatment.
