Mark 17 August a red-letter day for Philippine boxing.

If you’re a diehard fight fan, try to get a glimpse of the future of Philippine boxing at the Winford Resort and Casino in Manila.

The biggest attraction of the night is Kenneth Llover, the undefeated bantamweight champion of the Orient-Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF).

Llover, you see, has a 14-0 win-loss card with nine knockouts, including four in the first round.

He will be up against former world champion Luis Concepcion of Panama, who enters the ring armed with a 40-11 slate with 29 knockouts.

It will be a non-title affair being staged by Gerry Peñalosa and Kameda Promotions, the Japanese outfit that signed up the 22-year-old knockout artist from General Trias, Cavite.

So, what makes Llover, nicknamed “Lover Boy,” special?

First and foremost, his fighting style is all-action.

Just like, yeah you guessed it right, Manny Pacquiao.

Who doesn’t like Pacquiao?

Anyway, Llover means business when the bell rings.

His last two fights — both held on Japanese territory — lasted a total of two rounds.

Last December in Osaka, Llover disposed of Tulio Dekanarudo in less than a minute to become the interim OPBF 118-pound champion.

In March of this year, Llover returned to Japan and faced Keita Kurihara, the defending OPBF champion, at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

It took the Filipino two minutes and 33 seconds to get the job done and dethrone Kurihara.

He is now rated in the top 15 of two major sanctioning bodies: No. 8 by the International Boxing Federation and No. 15 by the World Boxing Council.

Just like Pacquiao, Llover is a lethal lefty.

Another thing that makes him worth looking at is the fact that he is represented by Peñalosa, a highly-discriminating individual and under contract with Kameda Promotions.

Also, a member of his team is Alex Ariza, who used to serve as the strength coach of Pacquiao.
