Cops launch manhunt vs. 'rentangay' suspect

Police have launched a manhunt against a 44-year-old woman allegedly involved in stealing cars using the "rentangay" modus, a scheme in which the car thief rents a vehicle but doesn't return it.

The suspect was identified onlt by the alias Charito, businesswoman, and a resident of Block 12, Lot-20, Monte Brisa Phase 1, Barangay San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect entered into an agreement last 2 April 2025 whereby the latter rented the vehicle of the former in consideration of P35,000 per month, and on that same day, suspect paid a 50 percent of agreed amount as down payment.

However, on 2 April 2025 the suspect failed to pay its balance and intentionally neglected to return the vehicle described as orange metallic Mitsubishi Xpander with plate number KAR3337.

When suspect had not complied with the terms of the contract despite repeated notice and demands, the victim, identified as alias "Ms. Tañada" visited the suspect's home, and discovered that the suspect is dealing with multiple complaints for the same modus, known as "rentangay."
