LTO orders SCO VS SUV driver over QC collision

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has placed a sports utility vehicle under alarm after its driver allegedly abandoned an injured motorcycle rider following a road accident on 11 July.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the agency has identified the registered owner of the Land Cruiser and issued a show cause order.

The owner and the driver at the time of the incident have been ordered to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division on 7 August.

“We are yet to determine if the owner was the driver of the vehicle that time, this will be the subject of the ongoing investigation and the reason why he was summoned,” Mendoza said.

According to an initial investigation, the Land Cruiser and a motorcycle collided along Commonwealth Avenue. The motorcycle rider was injured and his vehicle was damaged, but the SUV’s driver fled the scene.

The rider was taken to a nearby hospital with the help of bystanders.

The show cause order directs the owner and driver to explain in writing why they should not be held liable for reckless driving and for failing to help a person in an accident. The LTO said it will suspend the driver’s license for 90 days once the identity of the driver is confirmed.

The Land Cruiser, with plate number NAJ9218, has been placed under alarm to prevent any transactions and to compel the appearance of the owner and driver.
