The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the grid connection of Alternergy Holdings Corp.’s Alabat Wind Power Project in Quezon province, bringing the P7.1-billion project closer to supplying clean energy to the Luzon grid.
In its latest decision, the ERC approved the application of Alabat Wind Power Corporation (AWPC), a subsidiary of Alternergy, to develop and own a dedicated P1.8-billion point-to-point transmission facility for the wind farm.
The facility includes the installation of a substation at the wind farm site and a 37-kilometer transmission line from Barangay Villa Norte in Alabat to Barangay Hondagua in Lopez, Quezon.
It will connect to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ (NGCP) existing 69kV Gumaca-Tagkawayan-Lopez transmission line via a switching station in Lopez.
Milestone achieved
“This is another significant milestone achieved, bringing us closer to completing the Alabat Wind Power Project,” AWPC president Gerry P. Magbanua said on Friday.
“With this approval, AWPC reaffirms our goal of promoting environmental stewardship through the development of renewable energy resources and supporting our host communities while ensuring a reliable and efficient energy supply to the grid,” he added.
The Alabat Wind Power Project is one of five renewable energy projects under construction by Alternergy, part of the company’s target to reach 500 megawatts of capacity by 2026.
