Long after the last journalist has filed their story and the editors have given their final nod, another tireless team springs to life at DAILY TRIBUNE — the unsung heroes of the pre-press and printing departments. These are the dedicated crews whose daily grind ensures that the news, meticulously crafted, is transformed from digital files into the tangible, rustling pages that land on doorsteps and newsstands each morning.
The pioneers of DAILY TRIBUNE’s pre-press have stayed on the job throughout the years, making sure the paper is printed and delivered to those seeking the news of the day. Lorenzo Dalit — a DT pre-press pioneer — recalls how printing has evolved to what it is today. “We used to do negatives using cameras then,” said Dalit, who has seen the ups, downs and rigors of printing the newspaper.
He, along with other pioneers Jonas Cay, Nomerson Tabucol, Allan Borga, Bobby Rosaros and Miller, are the unsung heroes who ensure the DAILY TRIBUNE reaches all the four corners of the country. “Technology has changed — from negatives to image setters and now computer-to-plate (CTP) — it has really come a long way,” Dalit said. “We are doing things easier and less complicated.”
Their work is a nocturnal ballet of precision, speed and unwavering commitment to delivering the truth, come what may. The quiet hum of the machines and the focused intensity of the technicians speak volumes of optimistic the DAILY TRIBUNE will stand the test of time and they will still be a part of the growing family of the country’s most innovative broadsheet.
“I hope that DAILY TRIBUNE gains more awards and, as it stands, it has already made its mark on history,” Dalit said. “We are proud to be a part of this organization.”
Their daily grind, though largely unseen by the public, is the bedrock upon which DAILY TRIBUNE delivers on its promise of news “Without Fear, Without Favor.” It’s a symphony of steel and ink, fueled by human endeavor, ensuring that with every sunrise, the stories that matter find their way to the Filipino people. The delicate balance between art and science that defines their craft.
Looking ahead, Dalit and the rest of the pre-press production staff are optimistic the DAILY TRIBUNE will stand the test of time and they will still be a part of the growing family of the country’s most innovative broadsheet.
