Are you a pet lover and a proud dog owner of any breed? Grab your phone and snap a few portraits of your fur best friend or fur baby because July 26 is Dog Photography Day!

Initiated by UK photographer Kerry Jordan in 2018, the day celebrates the unbreakable bond between humans and dogs—highlighting their loyalty, companionship, stress-relieving presence, and undeniable cuteness. It’s also a day to raise awareness about rescue dogs and the fight against animal cruelty.

Let’s take a look at some photogenic and iconic dogs who have made their mark on screen and in our hearts:

1. Milo the Jack Russell Terrier

If you’ve seen Sarah Geronimo’s 2019 movie Unforgettable, you may have wondered about the intelligent fur actor who played Happy and tugged at your heartstrings. That’s Milo, a Jack Russell Terrier who also starred in Fantastica (2018) and, most recently, Sosyal Climbers (2025).

Milo is also a digital icon, with a Facebook page called “Milo & Friends.”

2. Princess the Golden Retriever

In the GMA primetime series, Aso ni San Roque, starring Mona Louise Rey, a beautiful dog named Anghel played a pivotal role. Her real name is Princess, and she’s a mix of Golden Retriever and Cocker Spaniel. Viewers fell in love with her touching connection to the blind protagonist and her important role in the story.

3. Howard the Rough Collie

Let’s revisit the 1994 classic film Lassie, about a loyal dog separated from its human family. The titular role of Lassie was played by Howard, a male Rough Collie owned by Robert Weatherwax, the son of Rudd Weatherwax—the original Lassie’s trainer.

4. Layla, Chico, and Forrest the Akita Dogs

No list of emotional dog movies would be complete without Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009). This tearjerker starred Chico as young adult Hachi, Layla as the adult Hachi, and Forrest as the four-year-old Hachi. Their powerful performances left audiences in tears.

5. Kabang the Aspin (Asong Pinoy)

From the Philippines, a viral dog, Kabang, an Aspin from Zamboanga City, became a headline—not for acting, but for heroism. She saved two young children (ages nine and three) from an oncoming motorcycle, resulting in a life-altering injury that left her snout partially torn off. Kabang was brought to the United States for surgery and recovery. Though she bore permanent scars, she became a symbol of courage and unconditional love.

Dogs may not speak our language, but even through their photos and on-screen moments, they can communicate something deeper—they touch our hearts and speak to our souls.
