Quick action by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) led to the rescue of an 11-year-old girl from the Pasig River on Wednesday morning, near the Maralla Bridge in the Navotas area.
According to a witness, she saw the victim floating in the river and called for help. Nearby police officers then radioed the BFP and PCG.
The two units swiftly responded. The BFP team, led by Senior Inspector Ronald Lim, and Philippine Coast Guard personnel successfully rescued the girl.
In other developments, authorities are conducting a search and rescue operation for a 67-year-old village watchman who reportedly drowned in Sitio Mina, Barangay Puray, Rodriguez, Rizal, on Monday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Nardo Elig, also known as “Nalding,” a hog raiser and resident of Sitio Macaingalan in the same barangay, was swept away by a strong current while crossing a creek.
