President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared the results of the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN) as official.

The declaration was made through Proclamation No. 973, signed on 11 July 2025 and released on 16 July.

According to the proclamation, the Philippines has a total population of 112,729,484 as of 1 July 2024.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), which is responsible for all national censuses and surveys, sectoral statistics, consolidation of selected administrative recording systems, and compilation of national accounts, conducted the 2024 Census of Population from July to September 2024, using 1 July 2024 as the reference date.

The census was also conducted in time with the observance of National Census and Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) Month.

In the same proclamation, Marcos directed the PSA and the Presidential Communications Office to disseminate copies of the 2024 Census of Population: Population by Province, City/Municipality, and Barangay to relevant government agencies and offices.

According to the PSA, the total count includes residents across the country’s 18 administrative regions, as well as Filipinos working in embassies, consulates, and diplomatic missions abroad.

The 2024 population reflects an increase of 3.69 million compared to the 2020 figure of 109.04 million.

The PSA also noted a decline in the population growth rate to 0.80 percent annually from 2020 to 2024, compared to 1.63 percent from 2015 to 2020.

Among the contributing factors cited were declining fertility and birth rates, elevated mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic, and subdued migration activity.
