Now you can listen to Rachel Zegler sing “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” on repeat.
The current West End revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Evita released the said single performed by Zegler as the musical’s second act opener on streaming platforms.
Zegler (West Side Story, Romeo + Juliet, Snow White) plays Eva Perón, an illegitimate young girl from Los Toldos, who rose from anonymity to become an actress and eventually the First Lady of Argentina before her tragic death from cancer at 33 years-old.
“However, having seen Rachel perform ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ on the balcony of the London Palladium, my feelings have changed. I realised it was exactly people in my position growing up that she was singing for,” metro.co.uk music expert Danni Scott said.
Evita originally premiered as a two-LP recording in 1976 starring Julie Covington as the lead with Colm Wilkinson as Che. Harold Prince’s New York staging of Evita won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.
Zegler is joined by Diego Andres Rodriguez as Che; James Olivas as Juan Perón; Aaron Lee Lambert as Agustín Magaldi; and Bella Brown as The Mistress/Alternate Eva.
Aside from “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” the musical’s soundtrack includes “Buenos Aires,” “Rainbow High” and “High Flying Adored.”
