XIAOMI is putting smartphone longevity front and center with the upcoming REDMI Note 17 Series, promising long-lasting battery performance, tougher drop and water resistance, and up to six years of support as consumers increasingly hold on to their devices longer.

As consumers hold on to smartphones longer, Xiaomi is putting durability and long-term reliability at the center of its upcoming REDMI Note 17 Series.
Built around the company’s “Built for Years” philosophy, the new lineup focuses on battery longevity, resistance to drops and water, sustained performance and longer software support.
The strategy builds on the REDMI Note Series’ more than 500 million global shipments and Xiaomi’s push to bring premium features to the midrange market.
“Users want devices they can rely on every day and keep with confidence over time,” REDMI Marketing director at Xiaomi International Anne Wang said.
“With the upcoming REDMI Note 17 Series, we’re taking that commitment further than ever through REDMI Titan Quality,” she added.
Six-year commitment
Xiaomi said the REDMI Note 17 Series is designed around a six-year “Built for Years” commitment covering battery longevity, security patches and sustained smooth performance, although specific coverage will vary depending on the model and market.
The lineup will also carry TÜV SÜD certifications covering battery performance, drop resistance and water resistance.
At the heart of the durability push is what Xiaomi describes as its largest-ever smartphone battery, using silicon-carbon technology.
The battery is rated for 1,600 charging cycles while retaining more than 80 percent of its original capacity, which Xiaomi says is designed to support up to six years of use.
Durability extends beyond battery health. Xiaomi said the series uses 17 waterproof components and undergoes 10 airtightness tests for protection against immersion, spraying and other exposure to water.
The company also said the device is certified to withstand drops of up to 3 meters.
The REDMI Note 17 Series will also introduce the lineup’s first Pro Max model, which Xiaomi says will offer upgrades in design, durability and overall experience.
The focus on longevity follows years of durability improvements across the REDMI Note family. In 2019, the Redmi Note 7 came with an 18-month warranty, longer than the 12-month industry standard at the time, while later generations introduced stronger water and dust protection.
For Xiaomi, the shift reflects a smartphone market in which consumers increasingly expect devices to remain useful beyond the traditional upgrade cycle.
Instead of competing solely on specifications at launch, the REDMI Note 17 Series is betting that how well a phone performs years later could become just as important.
