A National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) academy is set to be established in Alfonso, Cavite, NBI Director and retired Judge Jaime Santiago announced on Wednesday.

In a message to reporters, Santiago said he personally met with Alfonso Mayor Randy Salamat to discuss the planned construction of a training center for NBI personnel in the area.

“I took time out from my office works and visited Alfonso, Cavite Mayor, Hon. Randy Salamat on Tuesday (1 July 2025) regarding his dream project to construct an NBI Academy/Training Center within the Alfonso area,” Santiago said.

“Malamig ang klima dito... para ding nasa Baguio pero malapit sa Metro Manila,” he added, noting the cool climate and accessibility of the town. “The mayor is receptive and promised to assist the NBI.”

Separately, Santiago said he also visited the Municipality of Lian, Batangas on July 2 to discuss plans to open an NBI satellite office there.

“Today, 2 July, I visited Lian Municipality and talked with the Mayor, Hon. Joseph Peji, and the Municipal Administrator, Mr. JM Austria, regarding Lian, Batangas LGU’s request for an NBI Satellite Office so that its constituents will have access in procuring the NBI Clearance,” he said.

Santiago said Mayor Peji had already prepared an office space for the satellite branch, complete with computers and Wi-Fi connection. The mayor also committed to assigning two job order (JO) workers to assist the NBI staff.

In response, Santiago immediately approved the request and instructed NBI Regional Director for Region 4A, Olivo Ramos, to coordinate with the local government unit on the preparation of a memorandum of agreement for the project's swift implementation.
