The Philippine Information Communications and Technology Organization (PICTO) released a statement on 17 June, thanking President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for appointing Henry Aguda as Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
The statement highlighted Aguda's notable experience in advancing digital technology in the country through his leadership in the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC). PICTO emphasized the "Digital First" project, which Aguda spearheaded to address the ICT industry’s major challenges — including internet connectivity, cybersecurity threats, digital inequality, infrastructure gaps, and workforce skill shortages — through a proactive approach.
"By prioritizing digital infrastructure, innovation, and reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies, this vision paves the way for enhanced ICT services, greater economic inclusion, and sustainable growth — especially in underserved communities," the statement read.
"In his first three months in office, Secretary Aguda has rightfully focused on digital inclusion, infrastructure development, and cybersecurity. These efforts have empowered citizens to engage in commerce, education, and personal communication within a more secure and accessible digital landscape," it added.
Highlighting Aguda’s strong track record, PICTO expressed confidence in his ability to fulfill the President's vision for the industry. The organization reaffirmed its support for building an improved digital experience for Filipinos under Aguda's leadership.
"PICTO stands ready to offer its insights and technical expertise in connectivity, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity."
