Labor education boosts Pampanga’s hospitality industry

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) Pampanga Field Office has conducted a labor education to the hospitality industry of Pampanga at the Greene Manor Hotel last Tuesday, 24 June.

The labor education is part of DoLE’s thrust to further strengthen compliance on labor regulations of the hospitality establishments, with a total of 49 business owners, managers and management representatives taking part.

The event is themed “Building a Strong Workforce: Labor Education for Pampanga’s Food and Accommodation Sector” and is part of DoLE Pampanga’s target to conduct labor education, aside from labor inspection, to establishments in the same sector anchored in its Strategic Compliance Plan.

According to Labor Relations and Labor Standards Division Senior Labor and Employment Officer and Labor Inspection Auditor Limuel Gutierrez, the event discussed the features of the Department Order No. 252, the new Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 11058, particularly for the hospitality industry.

Meanwhile, senior labor and employment officer Paolo Franco Magtoto from the Legal Services Unit of DoLE Region 3 delivered lectures on the procedures of terminating employees and exercise of management prerogatives.

Magtoto also cited the substantive and procedural due process applied in firing workers, identifying valid grounds arising from grave misconduct, insubordination and other causes of just termination, and the rights of the employees to be heard in disciplinary actions against them among others.

DoLE Pampanga provincial head May Lynn C. Gozun expressed her gratitude to the participants in her closing remarks and expressed support to the food and accommodation industry as she believed that it’s one of the important sectors especially in Pampanga.

Labor inspectors Fernando Mallari IV, Danz Bautista, Christian Michael Siron, Allen Malit, assistant labor inspector Karl Louisse Mangune, labor and employment officer III Camille Zantua were present in the event, while TUPAD coordinator Eljay Benedicto organized the event and served as the secretariat.
