President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is expected to closely review the proposed Konektadong Pinoy Bill once it reaches his desk, Malacañang said Monday, following concerns from telecommunications firms over national security and market competition.
In a Palace briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Press Officer Claire Castro said the Office of the President has yet to receive the final version of the bill for review. She assured, however, that Marcos will scrutinize each provision carefully.
“No document has been submitted to the Office of the President. But rest assured that the President will evaluate every provision stated in the Konektadong Pinoy Bill,” Castro told reporters.
She added that Marcos is aware of the public interest and sector-specific concerns related to the measure, which is included in the administration’s list of priority bills.
“We can expect that the President is listening to possible issues related to this bill and will weigh what is best for the welfare of our people, as well as consider any concerns about national security and potential negative impacts on the telecom industry,” she said.
Telecommunications operators have recently urged the Palace to reexamine the bill’s provisions, warning that certain clauses may weaken regulatory oversight and expose the industry to cybersecurity threats and unfair competition.
While the bill is a priority measure of the administration, it now faces increased scrutiny after warnings from the private sector.
Castro emphasized that Marcos remains open to dialogue and will prioritize national security and the public good in any legislation he signs.
“As of now, no document has been submitted yet. However, the President will act on it promptly, as long as he has thoroughly studied each provision,” she said.
