The importance of compassion, patriotism, and the continuous fight to preserve freedom and sovereignty were at the heart of the 127th Independence Day commemoration held at Monumento Circle in Caloocan City on June 12.

In his keynote speech, Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo Malapitan honored the nation’s heroes and emphasized that the liberty enjoyed today is the result of their courage and love for the country.

“Our heroes and ancestors began the struggle for freedom, and each generation has protected it so that even today, we continue to enjoy the liberty born from the greatness of every Filipino who showed love for the motherland,” Malapitan said.

He urged fellow Filipinos to stand united in defending one another, the Constitution, and the nation. He also praised Filipino resilience, saying it helps citizens rise above the challenges that continue to hinder full freedom.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary for Operations Atty. Omar V. Romero paid tribute to Andres Bonifacio, calling him a symbol of national dignity and unity.

“We are remembering this place not just as Bonifacio, or as Supremo, but as a symbol of a country that is ready to fight for dignity and freedom,” Romero said.

He also acknowledged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s “Bagong Pilipinas” slogan, describing it as a vision for a compassionate, accountable, and forward-moving government.

Among the attendees during the ceremony are the different government officials from the local government of Caloocan City, Knights of Columbus, Northern Police District, Philippine Army, and members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Sergeant Francis Cruz, member of the Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, said that the celebration of Independence day means a commitment in ensuring the country’s security.

“As members of the Philippine Army, we are ready to serve no matter what happens; we will defend the freedom given to us by our heroes and never let it be taken away.”

The 127th Independence Day was commemorated in several key locations nationwide, including Pinaglabanan Shrine in San Juan, Barasoain Church in Bulacan, Rizal Park, and Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
