The local government of Quezon City — through the Quezon City Public Library (QCPL) — is again offering free online Basic Japanese Language Classes, welcoming new learners interested in Japanese language and culture from home.
Mayor Joy Belmonte said the initiative is part of QCPL’s ongoing commitment to lifelong learning and cross-cultural understanding, reflecting Quezon City’s broader vision to make education inclusive and accessible for all.
Tailored for beginners, the course covers essential Japanese grammar, vocabulary, everyday expressions, and the basics of Hiragana and Katakana writing systems. Participants will also gain insights into Japanese customs, etiquette and cultural practices, offering a holistic learning experience beyond language acquisition.
Experienced instructors and trained volunteers from Jellyfish Education Philippines Inc., QCPL’s official partner since the program’s launch in 2019, lead the classes.
“The QCPL’s Free Online Language Class opens doors of opportunity for every QCitizen, reminding us that in Quezon City, learning knows no limits, and progress begins with knowledge,” Belmonte said.
The program is open to all learners nationwide, regardless of residence, provided they are 18 years or older and have access to a laptop, desktop or smartphone, a stable internet connection and a Zoom account.
Following the successful completion of 172 graduates from the most recent batch on 22 May QCPL is now accepting registrants for the next session, which begins 19 June 2025.
Registration is free and limited to the first 500 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested learners must register through the QCPL Facebook page. Registrants will receive a confirmation email and must confirm their attendance within 24 hours, or their slots will be given to waitlisted participants. Approved attendees will receive full Zoom access credentials via email.
