The University of the Philippines (UP) has reaffirmed its position as the country’s top academic institution, with its Manila and Diliman campuses securing spots on the 2025 Global 2000 list released by the Center for World University Rankings on 2 June.

UP Manila, the country’s premier health sciences university, received an overall score of 67.4 and ranked 1,677th globally, placing it in the top 7.9 percent of 21,462 institutions evaluated. It also ranked 1,047th in employability and 1,607th in research.

In the CWUR’s separate list of Asian universities, UP Manila secured the 646th spot.

“This recognition is an inspiration for the UP Manila community to continue fulfilling our mandate to teach, create new knowledge, and serve the nation,” said Chancellor Michael Tee.

Beyond its contributions to medical research, UP Manila is also engaged in studies on artificial intelligence, data science, digital ecosystems, and personalized, human-centered technologies.

In 2015, the campus was ranked 479th in the U.S. News & World Report’s list of the Best Global Universities—at the time, the only Philippine university included.

CWUR has published global academic rankings since 2012 to help governments and universities enhance educational and research outcomes. Institutions are evaluated based on four key factors: education (25 percent), employability (25 percent), faculty quality (10 percent), and research performance (40 percent). The rankings are independent of surveys and university-submitted data.
