Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Tuesday assured that the long-awaited common station connecting the LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7 lines will be completed and operational by 2027 — coinciding with the scheduled full opening of the MRT-7 line that will link Metro Manila and Bulacan.

“Our goal is to find a new contractor by 2025 to complete the common station. The target is for the station to be finished alongside the opening of MRT-7, so that by 2027, it's finally done,” Dizon said during the Commission on Appointments' committee hearing.

The common station, officially known as the Unified Grand Central Station, is a critical infrastructure project that has faced nearly 15 years of delays.

“It’s been almost 15 years for these projects — the common station, MRT-7, and the connection of LRT-1 and MRT-3,” Dizon emphasized, underscoring the government's renewed push to complete the long-delayed transportation hub.

Once finished, the common station is expected to serve as a major interchange in Quezon City, connecting thousands of commuters daily from the northern and southern parts of Metro Manila and beyond. The MRT-7 alone is projected to reduce travel time from North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan from over two hours to just 35 minutes.
