A statement was released by former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Arrey Perez, describing the allegations against him as a “political game.”

The statement came shortly after his resignation from the top public works post. His resignation was announced by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon on 17 October 2025, just two weeks after Perez was sworn into office.

The move followed remarks from Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste, who questioned Perez’s track record at the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and alleged his links to flood control contractors.

Perez publicly addressed the controversy, clarifying his side amid the growing accusations.

“I resigned because I know that the malicious insinuations against me will only turn public service into a political game,” he said.

He added, “Let the fight against corruption continue, and let me continue to do my work in it from a position of integrity.”

The Lawyers for Commuters Safety and Protection (LCSP) praised Perez’s decision to step down, citing his act of delicadeza.

“Walang imbestigasyon kundi pahayag lang ng isang kongresista,” said Atty. Ariel Inton.

“Bihira ang tulad ni Usec Perez na may delikadeza. Pwede naman mag-resign sila na mga naakusahan habang iniimbestigahan sila. Pero iba pag nasa pwesto — sayang ang kita, sayang ang pwersa,” he added.
