President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the postponement of the EDSA rehabilitation on Sunday, 1 June.

The highway rehabilitation, originally scheduled to begin on 13 June, will be delayed as the process needs to be studied for a month to explore new technologies that could enhance the project.

“Let us pause the rehabilitation. The cost-benefit would be good. However, heavy traffic would take place,” he said in Filipino.

He also emphasized the inconvenience motorists will experience once the rehabilitation begins.

Transport Secretary Vince Dizon also announced the postponement of the odd-even scheme dry run, originally planned for 16 June, following the President’s decision to delay the roadworks.

The odd-even scheme was set to replace the number coding scheme on EDSA when the reconstruction starts.

“Let’s allot a month for the preparation. We must recognize the technologies to be used to create better plans. Let’s see what resource is available. Maybe this can be done in a month instead of two years,” he said in Filipino.

The EDSA rehabilitation was expected to last until 2027.
