A suspected case of monkeypox (Mpox) was reported in Mandaue City on Wednesday, 28 May, according to the City Health Office.
Dr. Debra Catulong, MCHO chief, confirmed that the patient is a 39-year-old male with no recent travel history outside Cebu. He sought medical attention after developing skin lesions.
The patient is currently under home isolation and has been provided with a medical and food assistance kit.
Dr. Catulong urged the public not to panic, emphasizing that the case is still under investigation by the Department of Health. Specimen samples were collected and sent to DOH-7, which will forward them to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine for confirmatory testing.
While the case remains unconfirmed, she reminded residents to stay vigilant. Those who notice unusual skin rashes or other suspicious symptoms are advised to isolate or seek medical attention.
She also encouraged the public to observe preventive measures such as wearing face masks, frequent handwashing, and avoiding crowded areas.
For patients under home care, she recommends staying hydrated, getting adequate rest, and taking paracetamol to help relieve symptoms.
