The local government of Cainta, Rizal has addressed entangled water pipes that were blocking plastic waste in the town’s creeks and other waterways, contributing to flooding.
Cainta municipal administrator and Mayor-elect Keith Nieto said that the water flow on the Ricarte bridge is now smooth, five days after the creek was cleared of accumulated plastic waste.
“The garbage has clogged the creek due to entangled water pipes which block floating plastic debris,” Nieto said.
“We already fixed their water pipes along the edge of the creek. All debris were also removed,” the returning municipal mayor added.
The local government will also dredge the creek to improve water flow and velocity.
“The excavator will arrive tomorrow to dredge the creek,” Nieto said.
Additionally, the local government has deployed a 30-person river patrol team tasked with monitoring the town’s rivers and creeks. The team will also inspect illegal structures built along the waterways.
“We also assigned people to monitor those who litter in the area,” Nieto said.
To further monitor water levels, the local government plans to install cameras at creeks and other waterways.
“There will be CCTV cameras to be installed in the next few days to monitor our creeks and other waterways,” Nieto said.
