The local government of Cainta, Rizal has removed entangled water pipes and cleared plastic waste from local creeks and waterways that had been causing flooding in the area.
Mayor-elect and municipal administrator Keith Nieto said water is now flowing smoothly under the Ricarte bridge five days after the creek was cleared of accumulated debris.
"The garbage has clogged the creek due to entangled water pipes which block floating plastic debris," Nieto said.
"We already fixed their water pipes along the edge of the creek. All debris were also removed."
To further improve water flow and prevent future flooding, the local government will dredge the creek.
"The excavator will arrive tomorrow to dredge the creek," Nieto said.
The municipal government has also deployed a 30-person river patrol team to monitor creeks and rivers, inspect illegal structures, and catch littering violators.
"We also assigned people to monitor those who litter in the area," Nieto said.
In addition, Cainta plans to install CCTV cameras at key waterways to monitor water levels and keep track of illegal dumping.
"There will be CCTV cameras to be installed in the next few days to monitor our creeks and other waterways," Nieto said.
