Illegal gamblers suffer double-whammy

Police arrested two men in Valenzuela City and seized suspected methamphetamine after they were caught engaged in illegal gambling.
According to information provided to the Northern Police District (NPD), officers from the Paso De Blas Substation responded to a tip from a concerned citizen about two men involved in illegal gambling.
The police operation took place along F. Santiago Street in Barangay Parada. Patrol officers apprehended two suspects, identified as alias “Jeffrey” and “Randy” while they were allegedly playing and betting on cara y cruz, a coin-toss gambling game.
Police recovered three one-peso coins, used in the gambling activity, and bet money totaling P850.
During a subsequent body search, officers also discovered eight small heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and the seized narcotics weighed a total of 40 grams, with an estimated street value of P272,000.
The suspected drugs were found in a gray sling bag allegedly belonging to “Jeffrey.”
Both suspects are expected to face charges for violating Presidential Decree No. 1602, the law against illegal gambling. “Jeffrey” will also face an additional charge for violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The cases will be filed with the Valenzuela City Prosecutor’s Office.
