The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and Norway-based digital learning company MINTRA formalized a partnership to modernize maritime education and workforce development, signaling a renewed push to prepare Filipino seafarers for automation and green shipping.
The memorandum of understanding was signed on the sidelines of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer 2026 celebration. It establishes a framework for digital learning, human capital development, and advanced training solutions designed to enhance the global competitiveness of Filipino maritime professionals.
Under the agreement, MARINA and MINTRA will co-develop upskilling and reskilling initiatives that integrate digital learning technologies into existing maritime curriculum.
The collaboration will also focus on research regarding emerging maritime technologies, eco-friendly green shipping practices, gender inclusion in the maritime sector, and digital competencies required by an evolving global shipping industry.
