The local government of Cainta, Rizal, has installed more booster pumps and pump stations in creeks and other waterways in the town to mitigate flooding during the rainy season.
“I have my own series laid out for the flood in Cainta — a series of booster pumps and pump stations placed one by one like a train,” Cainta Mayor-elect Keith Nieto said.
“We’ll run them together when the water rises to push it faster,” Nieto added.
The returning municipal mayor also said a 30-man river patrol team will be deployed to monitor the town’s river and creeks.
The team will also inspect illegal structures built along the creeks and waterways.
“That includes those who build houses in places we can’t see or extend their houses to cover our creeks. Our rivers are getting narrower when they do this,” Nieto said.
“We have demolished over a thousand houses along the rivers and relocated the occupants to our housing projects. We will not allow them to return to the creeks we have already cleaned,” he added.
The local government also plans to install cameras at creeks and other waterways to monitor water levels.
“I will install CCTV cameras in remote waterway areas so they can be properly monitored,” Nieto said.
